You know, I have lived in Toronto for so many years that sometimes I get bored and think, well, what can I do now? It has recently come to my attention that there is a wicked ass, uber cool drive-in movie theatre in Oakville. It’s called the 5 Drive In, although there are only three screens; I’m assuming that at the height of drive-in popularity there must have actually been 5. I went a few weeks ago with my roommate, and we went back tonight. We caught the tail end of Cars, which looked super cute, although now that I’ve seen the ending I probably will never watch the whole film, and then we saw Nacho Libre. I’m not quite sure how I felt about the latter though; some of it was really funny, but mostly it was pretty redundant. I liked the way it was cut and I enjoyed the pointlessness of it, but I can’t tell if I actually thought it was good or not. I think I liked it. I like weird Mexican movies and I love the insanity of Mexican wrestling and it seems like the people who made it tried to emulate the bizarreness of strange Mexican movies. So yes, I suppose I liked it.
Either way, I love the drive-in. It makes me feel like I’m in the ’70s and life is easier. There’s something really relaxing and nostalgic about driving onto the field, tuning the radio to the right frequency and sitting back and watching a movie outside. I think I will be spending a lot of time there this summer.
