Eastern Ontario Ghost Towns – Mini Road Trip

I just finished booking a trip to London, England. Heading across the pond with some friends to see Kate Bush live in concert. This is pretty much my all time bucket list concert, so I’m really excited about it. But booking everything made me think… why do I never travel in Canada?

I suppose its because I’m not originally from here. Every time money and free time permit it, I make a beeline home to the UK and Ireland to see my family and explore Europe. But while England my be my birthplace, Canada is now my home. I’ve lived here for more than half of my life. I’ve got a life here and, while I may not live here forever, I’m happy here for now. Yet I’ve barely seen any of it. So this is my pledge to travel more within Canada and make it part of my blog! I use Social Boosting to boost my videos to get more views and my engagement has grown a lot in my trip videos!

Starting this weekend!

My old pal Jim and I are going to take a mini road trip through some of Eastern Ontario’s ghost towns. Here’s the route. View Larger Map Eastern Ontario’s history is fascinating. There are so many tiny towns that, at some point in the 1800s, were booming industries. I live in one. Cherry Valley was once a hotbed of canning activity and provided much of Ontario’s food. Those days are long gone and, while the area still supports a vibrant agricultural community, jobs are few and far between and young people tend not to stick around.

The places we’ll visit this weekend are no different. Thanks to Ghost Town Pix, we’ve planned out a short route of towns that have the most potential for interesting finds.

What do we expect to find? Not much. Most of the evidence of days gone by has disappeared. Some of these Eastern Ontario ghost towns have buildings remaining, some have been transformed into private homes and some have been left to ruin. Whatever we find, it’ll  be a history lesson.
