The match is over and it couldn’t have been played better on the part of the Irish team. Despite the emotional nature of the game and their loss to France two weeks ago, they absolutely walloped the English at Croke Park. Here’s the BBC report. I usually back up England but given the circumstances of this match I was really gunning for an Irish win. Things seemed to go fairly smoothly outside the park, with minor protests happening but not too much drama.
I had a fairly decent night at work. I was really tired but the time passed quickly enough. I had a minor skirmish with a drunken sorority girl at the end of my shift but I called in security and she was removed quickly enough. I can usually deal with the people at the end of the night easily enough, but this girl was really pushing my buttons. I’m sure she won’t remember anything today, but it was very annoying. That’s what you get for working at a bar though; these things are to be expected.
I’ve been trying to avoid commenting on the tasteless circus surrounding the death of Anna Nicole Smith. However, it’s just going too far. I wish they would stop dragging this out and put the poor woman to rest.
I’m really feeling the travel bug again. I know I’ve travelled more in the last year than in the last five, but I’m really feeling the urge to get up and go. Perhaps I’m a little burned out with work, school and roller derby eating up 25 hours of every day, but I think mostly I just want to go find new experiences. Hopefully I can go to England and Ireland again when I’m finished with school, but there is so much of eastern Europe I want to see.
There are internship opportunities abroad that I would love to take part in and since I am an EU national I wouldn’t have to worry too much about work permits for some of them. There is one journalism opportunity in Romania that I have had my eye on for some time, but one that really stands out is the opportunity to work in Mongolia. Of course, there is the problem of language barriers. I only speak English and judging from my failed attempts as a teenager to learn French and Italian, I think it’s safe to say I am fairly bad at learning other languages. Perhaps I should buy a lottery ticket. I can’t think of anything better than travelling the world and writing about what I see.
