Semester one is over in two weeks. I don’t know where it went. I’m partly really excited to get going on the new courses in semester two, but I’m also slightly freaked out because this means I’m halfway done school and that much closer to not knowing where I’ll be working. I need to figure out where I want to do my internship but I haven’t a clue. There are so many interesting looking companies out there and I want to make sure I pick the right one.
I just picked up my plane tickets to Europe. I’m leaving in eighteen days. I also picked up a German phrasebook. I figure if I want to try all their neat-o beers I’m going to have to learn how to ask nicely. My flight time has changed, which I’m not too happy about. I don’t fly out ot Pearson until midnight, so I won’t arrive in Frankfurt until 1 p.m. the next day. It’s almost a ten hour flight.
I also found a really neat book called For the Love of Ireland. It’s a literary companion for readers and travellers, including excerpts from some of my favourite authors such as James Joyce, Edna O’Brien, Frank McCourt and Roddy Doyle that gives detailed historical information and directions to get to the places mentioned in their stories. I’m going to spend the rest of tonight curled up in bed with it and plotting my travels. I’m hoping that Edna O’Brien’s House of Splendid Isolation is mentioned in it. It’s such a beautiful book and I would love to go to where its story was set. Next summer I’m hoping I can attend James Joyce Summer School. It’s only a week long but there’s no way I can make it this year, but it sounds so incredible I must do it.
It’s quiz time again. My favourite news time of the week. BBC’s weekly news quiz.
Simply because I’ve been in a car with Meat Loaf blaring a lot lately, this made me laugh.
