I just finished my third week of full time school. Part of me feels like I have been there forever, but the majority of me feels like it’s only been 5 minutes. January has flown by, and I’m thinking that the rest of 2007 may follow suit. I’m enjoying school a great deal, and it’s making me think that I will have a lot of opportunities when I am done. On the other hand, I have a lot of projects on the go right now and no time to do them, so that’s a little bit of a downer. I really wish that I could stop working while I’m in school, but there’s just no way for that to happen unless I win the lottery.
I’ve been thinking a lot about where I will try to get my internship. There are companies I’m really interested in; Random House, Harper Collins, and other publishing publicity departments, but I’m thinking that perhaps I should try to land a spot at a multinational public relations firm so that I could move to Europe and keep working for them. We’ll see, I think the possibilities are infinite.
Last week we had a special appearance by Australian PR practitioner Paull Young. It was really interesting, and the things he had to say about blogging and digital networking prompted me to look at some blogs by young international PR practitioners. I found some really interesting people with a lot to say. It makes me excited about the industry I’m getting into.
Went to Monster Jam on Sunday; it was awesome. I love monster trucks. I know it’s very redneck-esque, but it’s a hell of a lot of fun. There was supposed to be motocross too, but for some reason they axed it. They brought the ramp out and everything, but then put it back. It was a bit of a downer to now see the motorcycles, but it was a great afternoon nonetheless. We went to the Hard Rock Cafe in the Skydome, oops, I mean the Rogers Centre afterwards for a drink and sat looking down into the stadium and watching the clean-up. It was pretty interesting; it was funny to see the monster trucks with tiny little tires on them.
On Sunday night I went to see a movie I’ve been dying to see. Those of you who know me know I hate going to the movies because the smell of popcorn makes me want to die, but this film looked worth suffering for. I was right! Notes on a Scandal is amazing. Judi Dench was already my favourite actress of all time, but she really was exceptional in this role. Cate Blanchett was incredible too, as was Bill Nighy. All in all a very good Sunday.
That about sums up my week. It’s time for a nice cup of tea and then work!
